The Central Arkansas Planning and Development District (CAPDD) is proud to announce its role in helping several local communities secure critical funding through the Arkansas Economic Development Commission (AEDC).
On August 21, 2025, Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders awarded more than $11.9 million statewide for infrastructure, safety, and community development. Of that total, CAPDD assisted communities in Lonoke, Pulaski, and Prairie Counties in receiving more than $1.1 million in support.

In Lonoke County, the City of Cabot and Building Bridges Developmental and Community Services, Inc. (BBDCS) was awarded $499,908 to expand services for individuals with developmental disabilities by providing more space and improved resources for local families.
“This project represents a meaningful investment in the important work carried out by BBDCS to enhance services for individuals with developmental disabilities," says Conya Spencer, Director of Economic Development for CAPDD. "I am honored to contribute, in even a small way, to the continued success of their mission.”

In Pulaski County, the City of Wrightsville was awarded $499,902 to complete street and drainage repairs and upgrades, which will improve neighborhood safety, reduce the risk of flooding, and provide more reliable infrastructure for residents.
“A project of this magnitude that is focused on improving drainage and upgrading roads in the small city of Wrightsville, represents a tremendous win not only for the citizens but also for local businesses and all who travel through the area," Spencer emphasized. "By addressing long-standing infrastructure challenges, this initiative will enhance public safety, reduce flood risks, improve transportation efficiency, and create a more reliable environment for economic activity and community growth."

In Prairie County, DeValls Bluff received two grants, the first was a Rural Services Block Grant of $100,000 for new fire equipment to help strengthen emergency response.
"The City of DeValls Bluff received awards for the purchase of self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA’s) and Jaw of Life equipment for the DeValls Bluff Fire Department," said Tanya Childers, Community Services Specialist for CAPDD. "This much needed fire equipment will be beneficial in maintaining a higher level of safety and fire protection for the citizens of DeValls Bluff."
The second was a Rural Community Grant of $15,000 for a new storm siren, enhancing public safety during severe weather.
"The award for the storm warning siren also received by the city will allow for adequate warnings before possible tornadoes or other unexpected emergencies relating to natural disasters," Childers noted. "It was a pleasure to assist this small rural community in this endeavor."
While AEDC awarded more than $11.9 million across 65 projects statewide, the CAPDD-assisted projects in Cabot, Wrightsville, and DeValls Bluff represent a significant investment in the heart of central Arkansas. These improvements will expand services for vulnerable populations, improve road and drainage systems, and boost public safety for small towns.
