Minority representation on the Board shall be the same percentage as that of the District population.   • You're Invited: Grand Opening of Benton Bike Park to be held May 24

    The City of Benton invites you to join them for the long-awaited Mountain Bike Park Grand Opening and First Ride on Friday, May 24 West of Ralph Bunche Park from 10 a.m. until noon. There will be vendors, giveaways, demo bikes, and food trucks. The bike park features the only Dual Slalom course in Central Arkansas. It is one of only two Dual Slalom courses in the state. The park was designed and built by Progressive Trail Design of Bentonville. City officials say the project has been several years in the planning and building process, and when it's open, will be a gem for Central Arkansas and the City of Benton.

  • City of Sherwood announces upcoming events for the Spring and Summer

    Sherwood city officials have announced their upcoming events for the Spring and Summer. The Sherwood Sharks 5K is Saturday, March 30 at 9 a.m. Participants can register in person at the Bill Harmon Rec Center. On Saturday, March 30, Sherwood Parks & Recreation will host their Annual Easter Egg Hunt at City Hall Park, located at 2199 E. Kiehl Ave., at 2 p.m. On April 8, the city will host a Solar Eclipse Viewing at the Sherwood Sports Complex from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. There will be a Senior Luncheon on April 15 at 11:30 a.m. at the Jack Evans Senior Center. Seniors can RSVP until April 12 by calling 501-834-5770. On April 18, the city will have their free Third Thursdays in the Park Concert Series at City Hall Park from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. This concert will feature local contemporary Christian musician Mitchell Meckfessel. There are two events on April 20 in Sherwood. The first is Shred-A-Thon at the Jack Evans Senior Center parking lot from 9 a.m. until noon. For more information on the Shred-A-Thon, email keepsherwoodbeautiful@gmail.com. From 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. that evening, there will be a Skate Night at the Bill Harmon Recreation Center, located at 51 Shelby Road. On April 22, Sherwood will celebrate the city's 75th anniversary with a city-wide clean-up from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. City officials encourage participants to stop by the City Hall Complex at 2199 E. Kiehl to get tools and a location assignment. On April 26, there will be Stories with Mayor Mary Jo Heye-Townsell at the Duran Youth Center from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. For more information on this event, call 501-835-9599. There are several events in Sherwood on April 27. The first event is Sherwood PD Drug Take Back. The drug takeback event will take place at St. Vincent Hospital on Wildwood and in front of the Walmart Neighborhood Market from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. From noon until 4 p.m., there will be a Gettin' Reel with First Responders Kids' Fishing Derby at City Hall Park. On April 27 and 28, there will be tryouts for the Sherwood Sharks at the Bill Harmon Recreation Center. Tryouts will be from 10 a.m. until noon on the 27th and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on the 28th. The Third Thursdays in the Park FREE Concert Series will continue on May 16 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at City Hall Park and feature 80's Night with Cliff & Susan. According to city officials, the outdoor pools will open on May 25. The Splash Bash will take place on June 14 at the Duran Youth Center.   • Central Arkansas Workforce Development Board Public Notice for Regional and Local Plan

    The Central Arkansas Workforce Development Board has completed a draft of the Regional and Four-Year Local Plan for the 2024-2027 Program Years and hereby presents the draft for public review and comment. The Regional and Four-Year Local Plan can be located at www.workforcear.com The comment period will extend for 30 days beginning on March 17, 2024, and will end at 4:30 p.m. on April 17, 2024. Public comments will be considered in the final draft of the Consolidated Plan, which will be submitted to the Arkansas Division of Workforce Services. To be considered in the final plan, written comments must be received during the 30-day public comment period. Written comments may be addressed to: CAPDD, Attn: Carmen Edwards, P. O. The Solid Waste Districts are partners in Solid Waste Management with the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality. The CEO Board organizes and appoints the workforce development board. As the Grant Recipient, it also oversees funding allocations within the region. Career Consultant must possess a formal education equivalent of an associate degree and additional experience in the delivery of job training or people-oriented services will be a plus; applicants must be self-motivated and able to effectively communicate accurately in both oral and written modes; Related or equivalent education or experience may be substituted; must have computer skills; must be able to work with little supervision; and must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel in the Central area, as needed.   • Free "Pathway to Prosperity" event coming to Little Rock Jan. 24

    The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), and the Small Business Administration (SBA) will present the South-Central "Path to Prosperity" regional economic development series at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock on Wednesday, January 24. The free event will be held at UALR's Engineering and Information Technology 142 from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Entrepreneurs and small business owners are invited to take part in the regional economic development series to engage with experts and learn best practices and resources from Federal, state, and local government agencies, as well as the private sector and nonprofits. During the day, there will be discussions on how to start a business, how to access capital, and how to do business with the government. There will also be lender-small business matchmaking sessions. This is a hybrid event with both an in-person and virtual option.   • ACT brings Work Ready Community Boot Camp Training to UCA February 21-22

    ACT will host a Boot Camp training for new Arkansas counties interested in becoming a Work Ready Community at the University of Central Arkansas Conference Center in Conway on February 21-22, 2024. ACT Work Ready Community is a program that "empowers states, regions and counties with data, processes and tools that drive economic growth", according to the website. The goals of the ACT Work Ready Community is to align career education to local employer needs, boost credentials and earnings for Arkansas students and job seekers, sharpen aim for growth in Economic Development and employer awareness and increase collaboration with a Results-Driven Framework. More than half of Arkansas counties participate in the Work Ready Communities program. The training is $150 per person. There is a requirement of at least two team members from each county to attend.
