This diversity conference is built on the premise that people with disabilities are a good investment for employers and that accurate information can dispel the myth that hiring people with disabilities requires major renovations and opens employers to the danger of law suits.
Opening Plenary Session
Welcome by Gov. Mike Beebe (will be invited)
Keynote Address: A presentation by a representative of a large company with proven success in hiring people with disabilities
Concurrent workshop sessions on topics such as the following:
Job Accommodation Network and adaptive equipment
Free assistance available from existing agencies
Examples of local success stories with employers and employees on panels
ARS RAVE program for employee retention
Arkansas Rehabilitation Services will present awards to Arkansas employers with successful disability diversity hiring practices
Repeat of morning sessions to give participants the opportunity to attend a different workshop
Another presentation of successful hiring practices
Final presentation: Looking to the future with emphasis on developing a Business Leadership Network for Arkansas
Representatives of employers large and small, HR staff, state agency and UAMS, employment decision makers, small business developers
Exhibits by related agencies and demonstrations of adaptive equipment

Each participant will have a packet of reference materials, website lists, and contact information to help them follow up on the conference presentations.
A grant from the Social Security Administration to the EmployAbility project of the Arkansas Division of Aging and Adult Services in the Department of Human Services is the major funding source for this conference. Staff work for the conference is provided by a subgrant to the Arkansas Association of Development Organizations, Inc. (AADO) This organization represents local Workforce Investment Act organizations. Planning assistance and other support is provided by Arkansas Rehabilitation Services in the Arkansas Department of Career Education and the Arkansas Department of Workforce Services.
